Free Memory Loss Seminar to Be Held at St. Catherine’s Village on July 21

The public is invited to attend a FREE educational seminar, Understanding Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease And Parkinson’s Disease, on Saturday, July 21 at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, Mississippi.

St. Catherine’s Village is presenting the free educational seminar Understanding Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease And Parkinson’s Disease on Saturday, July 21, 2018.

The event will take place at the community’s Independent Living Activity Room from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The public is welcome; however, space is limited so reservations are required. Light refreshments will be provided and tours of St. Catherine’s village and its memory care facilities also will be available.

Attendees will learn about key research in the fields of advanced memory loss and central nervous system disorders. Dr. Juebin Huang, Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Mind Center, will present Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease: Research and Progress. Dr. Natividad Stover, Associate Professor at the University of Alabama, Birmingham will cover Parkinson’s Disease: Research and Progress. In between, staff from St. Catherine’s Village will have a Q&A session on the senior living community’s award-winning memory care facilities.

Marshall Ramsey is a two-time Pulitzer Finalist. His editorial cartoons are nationally syndicated by Creators Syndicate and have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today and The Clarion Ledger. He is the author of several successful books including three cartoon collections, two short story collections (Fried Chicken and Wine, Chainsaws and Casseroles) and the delightful children’s book Banjo’s Dream. He’s also the host of a weekly statewide radio program, Now Your Talking with Marshall Ramsey and the television program Conversations on Mississippi Public Broadcasting.

Join us for an educational series promoting the importance of understanding how to keep our Brains Healthy As We Age. St. Catherine’s and Alzheimer’s Mississippi are partnering to offer various speakers presenting thought provoking information on changing the way we think about brain health. The latest research and information on brain health is covered along with practical strategies for keeping our brains healthy as we age. As the series progresses we will learn what is normal age-related memory loss, warning signs for dementia, diagnosing some-one with dementia and coping strategies for caregivers.

Join us for an educational seminar focused on key research for advanced memory loss and central nervous system disorders, specifically dementia, Alzheimer’s
disease and Parkinson’s disease. Hear from two medical experts—Dr. Juebin Huang, Associate Professor at University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Mind Center and Dr. Natividad Stover, Associate Professor at University of Alabama, Birmingham on their research and the progress that has been made in the field.

Juebin Huang, MD
Dr. Huang’s clinical practice is focused on general neurology with a special interest in neurodegenerative and movement disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Tremor, Vascular dementia, and Mild Cognitive Impairment. His research interests include exploration of experimental therapeutics for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases and the study of Neuroimaging biomarkers for aging and dementia. Dr. Huang is a member of the American Academy of Neurology.

Natividad Stover, MD
Dr. Stover specializes in neurology, movement disorders, Parkinson’s disease, deep brain stimulation, and dystonia. Dr. Stover is affiliated with Birmingham VA Medical Center and the University Of Alabama Hospital.

Employee Spotlight – Doris Henry

certified nursing assistant

Doris Henry works as a certified nursing assistant in Magnolia Bay of Campbell Cove. She has been working at St. Catherine’s Village for 19 years. Her favorite part of her job is coming in every morning to work and making sure her residents are taken care of. She always wants to make sure they are treated the way she would want to be treated and how she would treat her family. She believes treating residents well makes them feel good and happy.
Her favorite activity is reminiscencing with them. It gives her an opportunity to get to know them better.  She believes teamwork is very important. The whole team should try to get along and they should try to get to know each other because everyone is different.
In her spare time, she likes to work in her yard with her flowers or yardwork. She likes going out in her Kingdom Hall Ministry and talking with people about the Bible. She also likes spending time with her family. She was born and resides in Yazoo City and has two children and three grandchildren.
